Despite almost pulling off a great escape, FC Lorient’s relegation to Ligue 2 was confirmed on the final day of the season, despite a 5-0 victory over Clermont Foot.

It is expected to be a busy summer at Lorient, who are expecting to see interest in many of their players. Local rivals FC Nantes are notably showing interest in many of their assets. However, there could also be changes in the dugout with talks between president Loïc Fery and current manager Régis Le Bris ongoing. The future of the latter is far from assured.

There could even be a hierarchal change at the club. Laurent Koscielny, who played for Les Merlus before making a €12m move to Arsenal back in 2010, is being considered for the sporting director role at the Ligue 2 club, according to Foot Mercato. Whilst nothing is yet confirmed, Koscielny could soon make the step up from his current role at manager of Lorient’s U17 team.
