Former Barcelona youngster admits ‘I made a mistake’ in leaving the club | OneFootball

One-time Barcelona starlet Ilaix Moriba has this week opened up on his departure from the club.

And the midfielder was not shy in admitting that he made a mistake in bringing such an early close to his time as a Blaugrana player.

Ilaix, mere years ago, was widely regarded as one of the standout talents in the youth ranks of La Liga heavyweights Barca.

Since departing for RB Leipzig in search of more money and playing time alike, however, Moriba’s career has taken something of a nosedive.

The 22-year-old has been farmed out on a series of loans back to Spain over recent seasons, with his current stint with Celta Vigo at last having seen Ilaix rediscover some consistent form.

The player himself, though, is under no illusions when it comes to his past decisions.

In a post released by his agency, as cited by Diario Sport, on Wednesday, Ilaix openly admitted that his decision to leave Barcelona so early was ‘wrong’:

“I was wrong to leave Barça. I was very young and had a lot of pressure.

“For a moment I thought it was all over. Luckily I’m happy at Celta now.”
