Gent qualified for the next qualification round of the Conference League with a big aggregate win over Faroese side Vikingur. Despite having gone a goal down in the first leg, the side came back to win 4-1 at home and followed this up with a 3-0 win away from home. On the scoresheet was new signing Max Dean, who grabbed his first goal for the club since joining from MK Dons. Dean converted a penalty in the 77nd minute to make it 3-0 on a comfortable night for the Belgian side.
Gent will be going back to Scandinavia for their next round of qualification. The side have been drawn against Danish club Silkeborg. Despite winning 3-2 on the night, the Danish side fell on aggregate 5-4 to Norway’s Molde. Ironically, the Norwegian side still have to play Belgian opposition in the next round. They have been drawn against Cercle Brugge, who overcame Kilmarnock 2-1 on aggregate. Gent will travel to Denmark for leg one on the 8th of August, with the second leg coming on the 15th.
