Aime Omgba made a big splash last summer when he transferred from NAC Breda to KAA Gent. In a challenging time, the attacking midfielder received advice from former teammate Tom Boere.
Omgba spoke with Het Nieuwsblad, beginning by praising his new surroundings. “Ghent a great city. I’m there more and more often, especially when the weather is nice. It’s a bit quieter than Rotterdam. I like that. I regularly have lunch at Wasbar with Sonko. I think it’s a nice place. I usually order a chicken sandwich with a little water. Healthy boy, right?”
At NAC Breda, Omgba played with another ex-Buffalo, Tom Boere. “I still have weekly contact with him,” said the midfielder. “I didn’t ask him if Ghent was a good choice, no. The other way around, he came to me. Tom had read it somewhere and was immediately very enthusiastic. ‘You should do it’, was the first thing he said. Nice city, a good intermediate step in your career, stable too, he continued like that for a while. By the way, Tom now plays for FC Terrassa, near Barcelona.”
There was a lot of fuss about Omgba’s transfer to Gent last summer. An arbitration case had to be called in and both parties had to make compromises after many uncertainties on both sides, partly due to the midfielder’s serious injury. So far in Belgium, the 22-year-old has played six Pro League games and scored one goal.
