France coach Didier Deschamps will look to get the best out of Marcus Thuram by emulating his role at Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 27-year-old will start this evening’s Nations League clash with Israel.

Thuram has gotten off to a roaring start in Serie A this season.

The Inter striker is joint top of the scoring charts in the Italian top flight with Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui. Both have scored seven goals so far, after just seven matches.

Thuram scored braces against Genoa and Atalanta prior to the September international break.

After returning from the break, the goals temporarily dried up for Thuram.

However, the Frenchman got back on the scoresheet in a big way against Torino. He scored a memorable hattrick in a 3-2 victory.

Thuram has been fairly prolific at Inter since joining last summer. This season, however, he looks to have taken another step forward.

For France, on the other hand, Thuram’s impact has been more muted.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach striker has broken into the Les Bleus starting eleven over the last couple years.

Thuram started for France throughout the Euros this summer.

However, the 27-year-old eventually lost his place for knockout matches against Portugal and Spain.

Part of the reason for the discrepancy in Thuram’s form for club and country has been the role that he’s been used in.

At Inter, Thuram leads the line, typically alongside Lautaro Martinez, in Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system.

On the other hand, the striker role for France under Deschamps is a bit different.

But according to Tuttosport, the France coach will aim to change that.

The newspaper reports that Deschamps wants to unlock the best form of Thuram by playing him in a position closer to what he does at Inter.
