Striker Marcus Thuram insists that he’s not going to leave Inter Milan by having his €85 million release clause triggered.

The Frenchman gave his thoughts to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews.

Thuram is now halfway through his second season as an Inter player.

The 27-year-old joined the Nerazzurri from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2023. He arrived on a free transfer.

There had been plenty of competition for Thuram’s signature that summer. But Inter convinced the Frenchman that they were the right choice for him.

Since his arrival, Thuram’s choice has evidently been vindicated.

The 27-year-old has been in excellent form and immediately established himself as a key player for Inter.

This season Thuram is the Nerazzurri’s top scorer so far. He is also joint top of the Serie A scoring charts.

Thuram’s form has, unsurprisingly, attracted some transfer interest.

Moreover, the France international reportedly has a release clause in his contract. This would be for a fee of €85 million.

Therefore, on paper, if a club were to make an offer of that size to Inter, then the Nerazzurri could not reject it.

Thuram noted that “It’s a very high fee…”

“But I’ll make it very clear,” the Frenchman continued. “It’s never going to happen that I leave Inter by having the release clause triggered.”

Thuram said that this is “due to the relationship I have with everyone here.”

“There’s a clause in my contract that says I can leave for a certain fee,” the 27-year-old confirmed. “But I’ll never be the one to make that choice alone.”

“If any offers arrive, there will always be a discussion with the club.”

Meanwhile, Thuram said that he “couldn’t choose” between the Serie A title, the Champions League, or any other trophy this season.

“My goal is to win all five trophies,” the Frenchman made clear.

“If I were to bet everything on the Champions League and then don’t win it, what happens?” Thuram posed.

“One would be enough for me. I won’t say which one though.”

“Who knows,” Thuram continued with a laugh. “Maybe it’s the Coppa Italia.”

And the Frenchman also said that “I consider Inter to be among the super teams in Europe.”

“I think we’re a scary team. I don’t think anyone is superior to us, not even one.”

“There are five or six teams in the Champions League who are stronger than everyone else,” Thuram argued. “And we’re among them.”
