Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been watching their recent games from the bench, unable to get a look into the team. However the Dutch midfielder will not be leaving Barcelona any time soon, and certainly not to the Middle East.

That has been confirmed by his agent Ali Dursun, in comments made to De Telegraaf. The story was originally reported in Diario AS that Dursun was sounding out a move to Saudi Arabia for de Jong, with MD carrying the story.

“Conversations in Arabia? Totally absurd. It distracts attention from Frenkie’s true ambition. He only wants one thing: to be fit to shine longer at the club he loves and where he feels at home,” Dursun explained.

De Jong finds himself in a tricky situation. With his current deal up in 2026, Barcelona are keen to renew his contract at a much lower rate, or sell him next summer. The inclination appears to be toward that latter, but de Jong appears to want to stay at the club. However he will also have to consider the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, where he will hope to star for the Netherlands.
