Frenkie de Jong’s future at Barcelona remains uncertain as he approaches the final year of his contract. If no extension is agreed upon this summer, the 26-year-old could be on the move.

Last October, SPORT reported that several top clubs—including Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain—are keeping a close eye on his situation.

De Jong has been vocal about his desire to stay at Barcelona, but given PSG’s history of signing players from the Catalan club, they could emerge as a serious contender.

Barcelona, however, appear willing to part ways with the Dutch midfielder. According to Mundo Deportivo, the club isn’t prioritizing a renewal due to financial constraints and their inability to meet his salary demands.

Meanwhile, CaughtOffside recently reported that Liverpool have internally discussed potential summer transfer targets, with De Jong among them. However, his wages could be a stumbling block.

Barcelona are reportedly open to selling him for around €35 million, though his high salary at the Nou Camp has deterred Liverpool and other clubs in the past.

José Álvarez, a journalist from El Chiringuito, exclusively stated that he’s not ruling out Barcelona selling De Jong along with Ronald Araújo this upcoming summer transfer window.

“The club is starting to plan for the summer… there are several pending departures; let’s not rule out Araújo or Frenkie De Jong, Lewandowski with an uncertain future,” Álvarez said.

SPORT has reported that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has made it clear that De Jong remains a key part of his plans.

Despite being under contract until 2026, Barcelona has spent the past year trying to renegotiate and extend his deal. With no response from the midfielder’s camp, the club reportedly considered putting the 27-year-old up for sale.

However, Flick opposes that idea and is easing De Jong back into the team after a string of injuries. His support, combined with a return to the starting lineup, could play a crucial role in persuading De Jong to stay.
