FLW's Wrexham fan pundit has pinpointed which area of the team Phil Parkinson will want to improve in January

The January transfer window presents Wrexham with an opportunity to advance their promotion hopes for the second half of the campaign.

Phil Parkinson’s side have impressed since their promotion from League Two and are looking to earn a place in the Championship straight away.

A third promotion in a row would be a remarkable achievement for the club and the winter windo could help strengthen their chances of pulling this off if they can improve their first-team squad.

Parkinson will surely be looking at areas of his Wrexham team to add to that will boost their hopes of another top-two finish this year.

Wrexham transfer demand claim

When asked what one transfer demand Parkinson is likely to have, FLW’s Wrexham fan pundit Liam Grice highlighted the attack.

He doesn’t expect any issues with the board over any transfer plans, raising optimism that a deal could be struck to find a new striker when the market opens next month.

“I do expect him to go in for a striker,” Grice told Football League World.

“That’s been the position I think that we’ve been most lacking a bit of quality all season, since Jack Marriott’s injury.

“We’ve found him really tough to replace, he will be out until after January, so it will probably be a loan signing.

“I don’t think anything will be permanent.

“A young striker from the Premier League would probably be the ideal loan, and, to be fair, I think the board will listen to him on this.

“The manager and the board have a really good relationship.

“We’ve seen that over the last couple of years, it’s really worked to our benefit and I can’t see any issues arising because of what Phil Parkinson wants to do in the transfer market.”

Wrexham’s impressive form is down to solid defence

Wrexham have been relying on their defence, rather than their attack, to get them through games so far this season.

Adding a goalscorer capable of replicating Marriott during his absence would be huge for their top two chances.

The 30-year-old is the team’s joint top scorer this season, with five goals, despite making just 10 appearances before suffering his injury.

His return will obviously also come as a huge boost, but adding some extra firepower in January would still be wise so that the team won’t be relying on Marriott in the second half of the term.
