Brendan Rodgers, blessed with depth and quality across the pitch, was forced to make a few changes to his Celtic starting XI when they travelled to Dingwall to clash heads with Ross County. The game was supposed to be a stroll in the park for the Scottish champions, but the resilient home side pushed them hard despite suffering a 4-1 defeat.

The Staggies found an equalizer around the hour mark after Kyogo Furuhashi’s first-half goal. However, the Japanese hitman fired in again to restore the lead late in the game. The relentless Bhoys punished the hosts further by netting a quick double in the stoppage time, thanks to Arne Engels’ spot-kick and Luke McCowan’s strike.

Below are the Celtic players rated in their 4-1 defeat against Ross County.

Kasper Schmeichel: 6

Was hardly tested between the sticks except for Jordan White’s spot-kick. The veteran Scotsman found the net and denied Schmeichel his third successive clean sheet.

Alistair Johnston: 7.5

Set it up for Furuhashi who made no mistake to find the net from a very close range. Conceded the penalty as Kieran Phillips drew a foul inside the box minutes before the hour mark. Forced Jordan Amissah to make a save in the Ross County goal.

Cameron Carter-Vickers: 8

Steady as always while taking charge of the defensive shape from the heart of the backline. Dominated the duels, made timely recoveries and was spot-on with his tackles, blocks and no-nonsense clearances.

Auston Trusty: 8

Defended well alongside his fellow countrymen. Was combative during the duels and looked composed while charging for tackles. Showed his ability to play it out from the back by completing the most passes in the match.

Alex Valle: 7.5

Was handed a start over Greg Taylor and the youngster, on loan from Barcelona, depicted his liveliness down the left-hand flank. He made the most tackles and looked purposeful with his marauding runs, crosses and cut insides. Was taken off for Liam Scales during the closing minutes of the contest.

Callum McGregor: 6.5

Was below par considering the standard he has set for himself over the years. Lacked the creative spark while carrying the ball forward. Looked a bit defensive while going for the duels and challenges in the middle of the park.

Arne Engels: 8.5

Another impressive outing for the Belgian ‘number 8’ who kept on creating chances with his box-to-box movements. Kept his calm in the closing minutes while making it 3-1 from the spot.

Reo Hatate: 7

Regained a starting status in the centre of the pitch replacing McCowan. Made some swift moves in and around the box, tested Amissah between the sticks, also exhibited his work ethic by winning the possession back deep down the midfield. Made way for McCowan around the 73rd-minute mark.

Hyun-Jun Yang: 7.5

His footwork, finesse and link-up play often caused menace in the Staggies defence. Failed to find the net but he earned a late penalty which was slotted home by Engels.

Adam Idah: 6.5

Had a few opportunities high up the pitch, but he could not find the net before making way for young academy prodigy Johnny Kenny.

Kyogo Furuhashi: 9

Exhibited his poaching traits with two timely finishes. Was prolific with his shooting throughout the contest irrespective of his limited involvement in the attacking build-ups.
