Manchester United clinched an easy 2-0 win over FCSB on Thursday to guarantee direct progress through to the Europa League Round of 16.
More difficult challenges lie ahead, and as Ruben Amorim revealed at the end of the game, the team was not getting carried away with the result.
But despite the victory, Rasmus Hojlund once again drew a blank in front of goal and the Dane now has not scored in 12 games. The Portuguese needs help up front if he is to salvage what is left of the season.
Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with the club for a few seasons now and those links re-emerged this January amid Napoli’s interest in United wonderkid Alejandro Garnacho.
There were talks of a swap deal or a discounted deal but as of now, with less than four days to go for the winter window to close, no update has been provided on that front.
The Nigerian is currently on loan at Galatasaray and the Turkish side are delighted with the 26-year-old’s impact with the striker netting 17 goals and registering five assists in 21 games so far this campaign.
And as revealed Corriere dello Sport, Gala have submitted a €65 million bid for the Nigeria international, which is reportedly €10 million less than his release clause.
As a result, Napoli have rejected the offer and want to wait until the summer as they are sure of receiving the full amount considering the number of teams interested in Osimhen.
“Galatasaray have tried to buy Victor Osimhen. Right away, in this transfer window: an offer of 65 million euros to Napoli, 10 less than the value of the clause included in his contract and already active for the January transfer window, but De Laurentiis has kindly declined the offer.
“It goes without saying that the president prefers to wait until the summer in order to obtain the entire last sum established before the loan transfer to Turkey, having already reduced the clause from 120 to 75 million.”
Whether United return for the Napoli star in the summer remains to be seen. Osimhen seems happy in Turkey and he might prefer staying at Gala should they up their bid in June.
Most reports have indicated Amorim’s preference for his Sporting Lisbon protege Viktor Gyokeres. Despite a lot of interest in the Swede, United remain favourites for his signature.
