Former Blue William Gallas has admitted it would be “exciting” to see Kevin De Bruyne back at Chelsea, but warned it would be difficult for Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea are once again set for another busy summer and could look to sell as many as seven or eight players in order to fund their business.

The Blues face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Maresca’s squad.

Gallas on De Bruyne to Chelsea

What Chelsea need are experienced players with leadership and quality who can come in and improve the first team.

So far Chelsea have been linked with players with potential such as Liam Delap, Ben Nelson and Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.

It’s believed Chelsea are prepared so sign experience, and it’s said they held interest in Virgil van Dijk if he became available on a free.

Another player available on a free is De Bruyne, with the Belgian set to leave Manchester City at the end of season.

Chelsea have been linked with De Bruyne, and Gallas believes it would be exciting to see the 33-year-old back at Stamford Bridge.

“It would be exciting to see De Bruyne back at Chelsea, but it would be a very difficult situation for the manager,” he said as cited on X.com.

“The issue is having two playmakers in the same position, it might harm the development of Cole Palmer because he would have to play out wide again.

“It happened when they were both at Manchester City, that’s why we saw Palmer move to Chelsea and look at what he has done since.”

Estevao arriving in the summer

Chelsea arguably don’t need another number ten, and although De Bruyne still has a lot to offer there’s doesn’t appear to be a natural place for him in the squad.

The Blues have been linked with Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, whilst Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian will arrive after the Club World Cup this summer.

Estevao’s agent has admitted part of the reason he chose Chelsea was the chance to play as a number ten, although it remains to be seen if that will be the case.

Whilst De Bruyne would bring that leadership, experience and winning mentality it’s hard to see this happening at this point in time.
