AC Milan will play their final game in the first phase of the Champions League tonight, taking on Dinamo Zagreb away from home.
Milan moved into sixth spot in the UCL table after last week’s win against Girona, and now the equation is a simple one: win in the Croatian capital to directly qualify for the last 16 of the competition.
However, Dinamo are also playing to win as they sit two points below the last play-off spot. They have had a bit of a turbulent campaign domestically, though they will back themselves to spring a shock tonight.
Below are how the newspapers in Italy look this morning, and it would be fair to say that they sense an opportunity for the Italian clubs.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “Champions League: a night never seen before. Round of 16 and play-offs: 18 games together and many verdicts. Italians fighting for the top eight places. Milan in Zagreb: Theo and Leao needed.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Ranking for one night. Objective: 5 clubs also in 2025-26. Inter, Milan and Atalanta for the last 16. Leao in Zagreb against Cannavaro.”
Tuttosport: “Inter, Milan and Atalanta: last 16 close. Conceicao and Gasperini want to win in Zagreb and Barcelona to enter the G8.”
QS: “4×4. Champions League dream: the final climb. Atalanta, Inter, Milan and Juve all on the pitch at 9pm: only Bologna out.”
