GdS: ‘Everything under control’ – why Milan are ‘already crazy’ about Walker

Kyle Walker’s arrival came from out of nowhere really, with AC Milan not entering the window looking for a right-back. Now though, they are glad the opportunity arose.

Milan have needed a solid right-back for some time now, and despite the ideal of Emerson Royal fitting that role, it did not work out that way. Instead, the Brazilian’s arrival further fuelled the need for solidity, and with Walker, the Rossoneri have gotten that.

The Englishman was first able to make his impact against Inter, and Gazzetta dello Sport writes that he has already brought serenity to the defence.

With the arrival of Walker, ‘the fans are calm’ about the defence, put simply, because he is also calm and composed. Something has been lacking in defence, or more specifically at right-back for some time now.

On the ball, Walker proved himself to know what to do at the right times, with his experience helping massively to understand what was occurring – a trait we pointed out in our review of the transfer last week.

He also provides balance for Theo, reducing the risk of openness at the back when the Frenchman dreams of progressing further up the field.

Despite ‘losing a step’, as the report puts it, the Englishman is still a fantastic defender, once again, his experience came into hand and he could react to situations based on his knowledge of the game, even if he may have lost his ‘best’ attribute.

Most important, perhaps, is the work with his teammates. Walker, throughout the game, was vocal with his teammates to ensure that ‘everything was under control’. As a result, people are ‘already crazy’ about the potential that the defence has with Walker in it.
