Genk reject Club America bid for Gerardo Arteaga | OneFootball

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Genk have rejected a bid from Club America for Mexican defender Gerardo Arteaga. 25-year-old Arteaga is reportedly not against a return to his home country in Mexico, however Genk would like to exceed the €3m they spent on the defender back in 2020. The defender joined the Belgian side from Santos.

Since joining Genk, Arteaga has made 129 appearances and scored five goals. He has also been capped by Mexico 21 times and scored once. Genk are not against the defender leaving in the January window, but given that second choice left-back Joris Kayembe is likely to be leaving for AFCON in January, the side want to bring in a replacement before they let Arteaga go.

Genk are currently fifth in the table after a convincing 4-0 win over bottom side Kortrijk at the weekend. Another potential AFCON departee was the star, with Ghana’s Joseph Paintsil scoring twice.
