Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda this summer.
Two days ago, The Peoples Person spoke of Man United’s growing interest in the player, noting how the club is reportedly confident that a pre-agreement with Quenda would be possible ahead of agreeing on a price with Sporting.
Included in the report was Quenda’s price point, with United valuing the Sporting star at €40 million while the Portuguese club would look to fetch €60 million.
Now, it appears that United are racing ahead in their pursuit.
Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed in an interview with talkSPORT that United are on course to sign the winger and wing-back upon agreeing on personal terms.
“The player has agreed verbally personal terms, is waiting to see whether the club’s pre-agree of wait until the summer and the price that Manchester United are looking at is €40 million,” Jacobs confirmed.
“Yeah, I think the player is certainly keen on a move to Manchester United, and talks are progressing to see whether something can be pre-agreed ahead of the summer,” Jacobs added.
This update comes just days after it was reported that Quenda is intent on moving to Old Trafford.
It was claimed that Quenda’s desire to join United is driven by his admiration of manager Ruben Amorim, who he played under at Sporting until earlier this season.
Furthermore, it was added that he enjoyed the prospect of playing alongside new United signing Patrick Dorgu.
Because of his ability to play as both a winger and wing-back, Quenda is an ideal fit for Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation. With Amad Diallo injured and the futures of Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho in doubt, Quenda could play an important role as one of United’s few options at winger should he join the club.
Furthermore, at just 17 years of age, Quenda is the kind of player who could become a core component of United’s long-term future.
