Former Burnley professional Ameen Al-Dakhil of VfB Stuttgart will have to sit out two Bundesliga fixtures after drawing a straight red card in last Saturday night’s loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. The 23-year-old robbed SGE striker Hugo Ekitiké of a clear goal-scoring opportunity in the 57th minute. Match official Deniz Aytekin immediately ejected the Belgian international from proceedings. The DFB confirmed the two-match-ban on Monday.
After sitting out most of the campaign with injury, it appeared as if Al-Dakhil had finally established himself with his Bundesliga outfit. The Baghdad native logged just 10 minutes as a substitute during the first half of the season. Since the season reached its halfway mark, however, Al-Dakhil made six Bundesliga starts. VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß recently singled him out as an important emerging actor.
Dakhil remains eligible for this Wednesday’s German cup semi-final against RB Leipzig, but will miss out on forthcoming league matches against VfL Bochum and SV Werder Bremen. Hoeneß has been getting creative with his defensive set-ups as of late, often moving in-form German national team midfielder Angelo Stiller into the back tanks. Finn Jeltsch could also start alongside Jeff Chabot in a back four.
