Gian Piero Gasperini after Atalanta’s dominant win over Genoa: “Not thinking about the Scudetto” | OneFootball

Serie A side Atalanta picked up a dominating 5-1 win over Genoa today, in what was a show of their real quality in the competition.

It was probably the most convincing performance from the club in Serie A so far, as they rode on a Matteo Retegui hat-trick to take all three points and rise to ninth in the table. Ederson scored once and so did midfielder Maarten de Roon, who scored from outside the box.

La Dea have now won three games in the season, losing just as many but their performance in Europe against Shakhtar Donetsk suggested that they are perhaps back to their best.

After the game, Gasperini spoke to DAZN and revealed that they aren’t focusing on winning the title, as relayed by TuttoAtalanta.

“Obviously, we played a great game. We’re in a good moment, we won against Shakhtar, we’re growing. Every now and then, like against Como, we loosen up.

“We play a lot, every three days, even the other teams involved in the cups have a drop in energy but when we’re in form, like tonight, we can always put in good performances.”

On asked whether his side can challenge for the title, Gasperini said: “We are growing but we are not thinking about the Scudetto.”

Atalanta have won only two of their last five games and they have been the last two games. The next game against Venezia could offer them the chance to get another win.
