Santiago Gimenez is hoping to continue his positive record against Lazio and fire AC Milan back into the race for the Champions League places.

It has not been the best recent period for Milan, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Feyenoord last month and have also seen their top four push fully derailed by damaging defeats.

There is talk of an imminent summer revolution to come which could see some big names leave, a new sporting director arrive and potentially a change in the head coach too.

However, for now there is a responsibility to finish the season in the best possible way, to try and fight for a European spot regardless of what the competition is.

Gimenez – who has scored five times in four games against Lazio, all with Feyenoord – spoke to Milan TV and DAZN just before kick-off. His comments were relayed by MilanNews.

A victory to is needed to get back on track…

“We have lost points in the last few weeks, today will be important because we need a victory to regain confidence and in the race towards fourth place.”

You have a good record against Lazio…

“Yes, I feel good but I can still improve in this league that is new to me. The numbers are good, but I want to do even more. I already scored against Lazio and I hope to do it again tonight.”

How important is it to return to the Champions League?

“Very important, a club like Milan must always be in the Champions League. I think today is a key match, they are a little ahead of us: we must start winning to qualify.”

Do you have 90 minutes in your legs?

“I feel good, the statistics speak for themselves: this year I did well in goals and assists. What we have to do as a team is work together, fight to win and find it to find confidence.”
