Federico Viñas hailed the impact interim manager Fernando Ortiz has had after América beat basement side Juárez on Saturday.
Ortiz was promoted from the U-20 set-up in early March following the dismissal of Santiago Solari, and the Argentine has engineered an impressive improvement in form.
Viñas brilliantly converted a free-kick to put the Azulcrema two ahead on the half-hour mark at the Estadio Azteca, with Diego Valdés adding a third in stoppage time at the end of the game to put the gloss on a third consecutive league win.
It was also a fourth straight clean sheet for Las Águilas, lifting them up to 11th and into the play-off spots for the first time in the 2022 Clausura.
“We are very well supported, I don’t know what we changed, but the team is more united, happier,” 23-year-old Viñas told TUDN.
“We had a positive streak, and we hope to extend the positive streak,” he added.
It was certainly a happy occasion for the Uruguayan striker, as he netted for the first time this campaign and ended a scoring drought that stretched back to last October.
