Football League World's Preston North Fan pundit issues his valuation on Mads Frokjaer
Preston North End are unbeaten in their last four outings, albeit the Lancashire outfit have not yielded a win since a 1-0 triumph over Coventry City back in October, and are just two points above the relegation zone.
Despite their lowly league position, the Lilywhites boast some serious attacking quality among their ranks, such as Sam Greenwood, who has scored four goals and created two assists in 16 Championship appearances so far this term whilst on loan from Leeds United, and Emil Riis, who has impressed up front with five goals and two assists in 19 second tier outings.
Meanwhile, as the January transfer window fast approaches, Football League World asked our Preston fan pundit, Darren Watson, which player in North End's squad he thinks has the highest price tag, and how much he would personally value him at.
Darren told FLW: "Currently in our squad right now, I'd think the one player with the highest price tag who's not on loan, that actually is North End's, probably Mads Frokjaer.
"He's a brilliant, brilliant player and he's getting better every season, that obviously he's here at Deepdale. When he's on the ball, he's very calm, very cool, very collected.
"He looks up, he knows where he wants to pass the ball, and when he doesn't have the ball, he's always looking for space, he's always thinking 'Right, should I go into that area?'
"He almost knows, as well - he's had that connection with Riis, just knowing where he wants to play that ball into Riis all the time, making them runs, and where he wants Riis to make his runs.
"Currently, price tag wise, I would have to say anything in the region of over £1 million for Mads Frokjaer.
"I wouldn't go as far as the £2 million mark, but I do think he is worth that much, he's going to be a player that his value is going to keep on increasing if he keeps playing the way he does."
Darren is spot on with his seven-figure valuation of Frokjaer, as he is a quality player who notched three goals and eight assists last term, which was his first season in English football.
Perhaps the £1 million mark is underselling Frokjaer's qualities though - The Dane joined the Deepdale outfit for a fee of £1.2m during the summer of 2023 from Odense, when he signed a four-year-deal, so the Lancashire club should be looking to profit from his services if and when they decide to eventually move him on.
As his stats over the last year show from FBref, Frokjaer ranks very highly compared to other midfielders from around the top European leagues when it comes to assists, progressive passes recorded and successful take-ons, finding himself in the 93rd, 90th and 85th percentile respectively - he is a playmaker who is tricky to dispossess and has clear match-winning qualities.
Furthermore, the 25-year-old remains a constant source of danger for North End despite their current struggles in the Championship, as demonstrated by the fact he created an assist during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, to further complement the two goals he has scored so far this campaign.
North End fans would no doubt be extremely disappointed if they got to the position where Frokjaer was sold for as little as £1 million, as there is the potential there for him to become a £5 million-plus player given time to develop further.
