The race to sign England international midfielder Angel Gomes will be intense in the summer transfer window.

The Lille midfielder is set to become a free agent at the end of the season and Premier League clubs are lining up to sign him.

The 24-year-old has impressed this season with his performances for the French club and that has earned him a call-up to the England squad.

West Ham United’s pursuit of Lille midfielder Angel Gomes has reportedly ended in disappointment, despite a personal intervention from manager Graham Potter.

According to Claret & Hugh, Potter made a direct phone call to Gomes in a last-ditch effort to persuade him to join the Hammers.

However, the 24-year-old England international has declined the move, opting instead to consider other Premier League offers.

After failing to convince Gomes in the January transfer window, Potter decided to take matters into his own hands and tried to convince the player himself over a phone call.

The manager discussed his vision for Gomes in the West Ham team and tried to convince him with his ideas about the player moving forward.

However, the player was not impressed from what he heard from the West Ham manager.

Despite these efforts, Gomes is understood to have received multiple offers from Premier League clubs, including Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Tottenham Hotspur.

Although the player would welcome a return to his boyhood club Manchester United, the Red Devils are currently not that keen on bringing him back to Old Trafford.

West Ham’s current struggles, including a dip in form and a position just above the relegation zone, may have influenced Gomes’ decision.

In contrast, clubs like Fulham and Palace are reportedly playing with more confidence and flair, making them more attractive destinations for the midfielder.

Potter could be getting ready for a major clear-out at the club this summer as he aims to make big changes.
