Grêmio put on a show once again. Even with some of their reserve players, Tricolor seemed to take the game like an exhibition match and thrashed Venezuelan side Aragua by a 6-2 score-line at the UCV Olympic Stadium on Thursday night. The difference in quality between both sides was pretty clear.
Léo Chú, Darlan, Ricardinho and Pepê all got on the score-sheet while Elias bagged a brace. For the visitors, Stephens and Juan García grabbed what turned out to be mere consolation goals. The result also saw Grêmio advance to the last 16 of the competition.
The result sees Tiago Nunes continue to impress, with the manager now recording his eighth straight victory in less than a month as manager of the club. In general, Grêmio are now unbeaten in their last 11 games, winning 10 consecutive times.
With the result, Grêmio moved up to 15 points in Group H and can no longer be met by other sides in their group, ensuring their qualification no matter what happens in their final group game.
In other results for Brazilian sides in the competition, Ceará beat Bolívar 2-0 after goals from Lima and Vina. Following the win, Ceará moved up to nine points and remain top of Group C. Elsewhere, Corinthians might have been eliminated from the competition but they claimed a 5-0 win over Sport Huancayo. Gustavo Mosquito bagged a brace while Mateus Vital, Gil and Luan all got on the score-sheet.
For their next outing, Gremio have a big game on Sunday which is the Gre-Nal final and would determine who wins the Gaucho Championship. They conclude their Copa Sudamericana group stage campaign with a game against La Equidad on Thursday.
