Grêmio have been making moves over the past few weeks in a bid to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2021 season.
As per recent reports, the latest player on the radar of Tricolor is midfielder Rafael Carioca, from Mexican outfit Tigres. Grêmio also considered making a move for Colombian striker Duvan Vergara, who plays for América de Cali. However, they decided to rule out the signing.
Rafael Carioca has long been on the tails of Grêmio, with the Brazilian outfit trying to sign him as far back as two transfer windows ago.
However, the midfielder recently extended his contract with Tigres and was also part of the squad who took part in the Club World Cup back in February. Tigres finished second behind Bayern Munich in that competition.
Any potential deal won’t be straightforward but talks remain ongoing. The Mexican side are asking for about $ 5 million, which is around R$ 28 million. Grêmio are trying to secure an agreement with the 31-year-old and in a bid to reduce the value of that deal.
For the same position, Grêmio also considered Jailson, another player who came through the ranks at Tricolor but currently plys his trade in Chinese football. However, there has been no progress so far on the 25-year-old.
In the midst of it all, Grêmio also made contact with Duvan Vergara. The Colombian striker also plays for América de Cali. There is an expectation in Colombia that Tricolor might put forward a proposal but it remains to be seen how that will exactly pan out.
At the moment, Grêmio have two negotiations in the pipeline but are choosing to keep the player names confidential. Alongside a left midfielder and a central one, the club would also go all out for a goalkeeper as Renato seeks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.
