Gyrano Kerk struck in the 92nd minute to earn Antwerp a point at home to league leaders Union St Gilloise. The Brussels side played the last 20 or so minutes down to 10 men, with defender Koki Machida having been sent off after receiving a second yellow card. However, rather than settling for the point, Union took the lead instead. Gustaf Nilsson celebrated his recent call-up to the Swedish national team with his 12th league goal of the season. Swiss midfielder Cameron Puertas grabbed his 14th Pro League assist in 30 games in the process.
Kerk, who has had to settle for minutes off the bench this season, was introduced by head coach Mark van Bommel in the 89th minute. He made an almost immediate impact by scoring in injury time. The former FC Utrecht forward has scored two goals in 35 games this season. He has only started nine of his 26 appearances in the Pro League.
The dropped points mean that Union were unable to take advantage of Anderlecht’s surprise defeat at home to Kortrijk on Saturday.
