Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Friday moved to make clear his appreciation for a leading member of the club’s backline.
The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.
Defender Iñigo has for his part of course enjoyed nothing short of a brilliant campaign to date.
One of the first names on the Barca team sheet, the 33-year-old has struck up a superb partnership with youngster Pau Cubarsí.
Iñigo has shone not only from a defensive standpoint, but on the ball, too, with his long-undervalued technical talents having been on full display.
Previously considered by many to be a tier below the standard required for a club of Barcelona’s stature, the former Athletic Club man, in turn, has firmly silenced his many doubters.
And as alluded to above, such efforts, this week, have given rise to altogether deserved praise on the part of boss Hansi Flick.
Speaking to the media in his latest pre-match press conference on Friday, Barca’s headmaster gushed:
“The way Iñigo has adapted to our system and how he’s playing is amazing. For me, he’s one of the key players. He’s a true leader. He gives everything for the club. He’s a role model.”
