Harry Kane has smashed Wayne Rooney’s previous record and become the top English goalscorer in Champions League history.
The Bayern Munich man scored a staggering four goals against Dinamo Zagreb as the Bundesliga side ran out 9-2 winners.
Rooney held the record with 30 goals during his playing career at Manchester United. However, Kane took his overall tally to 33 with goals coming in the 19th, 53rd, 73, and 78th minutes.
The game itself also broke another record as Bayern became the first team to score nine goals in a single Champions League match.
On becoming the record English goalscorer in the Champions League and surpassing Rooney’s record, Kane told reporters: “Whenever you’re in a conversation with Wayne Rooney it means you’re doing something well. He’s one of the greatest English players and one of the best players there was in the game. It’s a nice achievement.”
Kane’s four games comes off the back of a hattrick in the previous game against Holstein Kiel in the Bundesliga. Vincent Kompany’s men currently have a 100% record domestically and sit top of the table.
Speaking about his recent run of form, Kane said: “I keep all the balls after hat-tricks! The lads might be sick of signing them, but keep them coming.” He continued: “My son Louis, he loves playing football right now. I’ll take it home and put it next to his bed and he’ll be happy when he wakes up in the morning!”
Bayern face Werder Bremen away this weekend before another massive game in the Bundesliga where they host Bayer Leverkusen.
