The centre-back made the switch to the Premier League in the summer, with his new side 17th after seven games.

Hull City's transfer window was an incredibly tough one to take for supporters, following their failure to reach the Championship Play-Offs last season.

It was a summer dominated by the outgoings of high-profile stars such as Jaden Philogene and Ozan Tufan, but perhaps the one that is still being felt most by the Tigers is the sale of Jacob Greaves to Ipswich Town.

The centre-back was signed by the Premier League club for £15 million, with the deal still potentially rising to £18 million through add-ons, following an impressive 2023/24 campaign for Hull.

Greaves played 43 of the Tigers' 46 Championship matches last season, and missed just 12 games for the club throughout his four seasons at the MKM Stadium, helping them to promotion from League One in 2020/21.

But, with his Hull career over for now, Football League World has taken a look into whether Greaves' move has paid off so far.

Greaves has instantly become a permanent starter for Ipswich Town

Perhaps to nobody's surprise at the MKM Stadium, Greaves has played every minute of Ipswich's first seven Premier League games following their return to the top flight after a 22-year wait.

However, it has not been the start to life at Portman Road that the 24-year-old might have hoped for, with the Tractor Boys yet to win a game in the league, conceding 14 goals and scoring just six.

A run of four straight draws was ended by West Ham United on Saturday, as the Hammers eased past Ipswich in a 4-1 win at the London Stadium.

There were some rather disappointing defensive mistakes from the East Anglian side at the weekend, with Greaves himself often out of position as West Ham opened up the Ipswich backline with ease.

Nevertheless, at a relatively young age, he still has plenty of time to adapt and adjust to the Premier League and start to help his side keep clean sheets, in an effort to avoid relegation.

It's too early to tell if the move has gone to plan

Although Ipswich are lurking just above the relegation zone, they have faced some tough opponents in their first seven matches, playing four of the top six already, drawing against both Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Their two other points came in draws against Fulham and Southampton, with Sam Morsy's last minute header against the Saints rescuing a point at St. Mary's Stadium in September.

Greaves had the toughest start to life at Portman Road he could have asked for, as Liverpool made the long journey in early August, taking home all three points in a 2-0 win before Ipswich travelled to face Manchester City in a 4-1 defeat just a week later.

With some of their most difficult matches in the first half of the season already over, the Tractor Boys and Greaves will be hoping for some reprieve in games against Everton, Brentford and Leicester City following the international break.

Positive results against these teams will show to the rest of the league that they are more than capable of competing, and clean sheets will go a long way for Greaves and the rest of his defence's confidence going forward.
