Pep Guardiola provided an important update on Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker following Manchester City’s last-gasp victory over Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Premier League champions Manchester City secured another three important points this weekend, this time against Wolves after John Stones scored a late goal that proved to be the winning effort at Molineux.

Ahead of the game, when Pep Guardiola’s line-up was announced, fans quickly noticed that Kyle Walker was not included in the squad, while Kevin de Bruyne also missed out while he recovers from injury.

The club confirmed that Kyle Walker’s absence from the travelling party in the west midlands was due to the club captain and England international not being ‘fully fit’ heading into the clash.

The 34-year-old played 90 minutes against Finland for Lee Carsley’s England before returning to Manchester City’s training ground towards the end of last week, being afforded an additional day off to recover.

“He doesn’t feel good after the national team, so he does not travel,” explained Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola ahead of the game at Molineux.

Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has been sidelined for the past few weeks after suffering an issue against Inter Milan in the opening week of the revamped UEFA Champions League’s league phase format.

Despite Pep Guardiola initially reassuring fans that the injury to the Belgian international was not serious and would not result in a long-term absence, his recovery has taken longer than expected.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the dramatic win at Wolves, Pep Guardiola suggested that neither player would be available to face Sparta Prague in the Champions League at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night.

“I don’t think they will be ready,” admitted the Spanish boss. “We have few days training but don’t think so.”

The Manchester City boss will be hoping that the two experienced players will be back in action for the Premier League clash against Southampton next weekend, with the club hoping to further extend their unbeaten streak.
