After a difficult start, Sébastien Haller is growing back to his old form at FC Utrecht, as Ron Jans has noted with content. Notching his second Eredivisie goal of the season, the 30-year-old Ivorian played a big part in the Domstedelingen’s 3-1 victory over FC Groningen.

Haller was immediately important against RKC Waalwijk and Feyenoord after his arrival in January, but after that, it regularly became clear that the striker was not yet fully fit. Against Groningen, he proved to be back on the right track.

“Sébastien was very important for us today”, said Ron Jans in the Algemeen Dagblad. “He is bursting with energy, is fit and makes the team play better. This is the Haller I want to see.”

FC Utrecht are currently loaning the crowd favourite from Borussia Dortmund, where he has a contract until mid-2026. A longer stay for Haller in the Domstad is therefore a complicated story.

“There are quite a few financial catches, yes. As much as we would like to keep Sébastien here, the chance of that happening is quite small. But the door is not completely closed. It would be nice if he were still here next season.”

Haller hopes to continue his good form now. Interestingly enough, his old club Ajax is the next opponent next Sunday. “We feel good and strong. It is now up to us to make sure that we end the season in the best possible way.”
