“He’s a Chelsea fan” – Elite player who could change club’s fortunes confirmed as a Blue by teammate

Yesterday’s dreadful Chelsea game was another reminder of how much the Blues need another striker.

With Nicolas Jackson out and no viable senior alternative, they were reduced to playing Pedro Neto up top again. That plan may have worked against the Southamptons and the Leicesters, but it was not going to work against Gabriel and William Saliba, perhaps the world’s best centre back partnership, and certainly the most physical.

What might have worked would have been having a major presence and deadly finisher up top. That’s what we would have with Victor Osimhen leading the line. Year after year we’ve chased him then backed down upon seeing the price tag put on him. But eventually Napoli’s demands will fall to the point where he becomes good value.

At €120m, last summer, nobody bit. But the Italian club were forced to loan him out to Galatasaray instead. This time around they’ll apparently accept €80m, and his falling price isn’t the only reason he might come to Chelsea.

His Nigeria teammate William Troost-Ekong has today revealed in quotes picked up by CaughtOffside that Osimhen may have sentimental reasons for choosing the Blues:

“I know he’s a Chelsea fan, but I also know he’s had talks with all the top teams. It’s up to him what he chooses. He will fit into every team,” Nigeria captain Troost-Ekong said.

A dream option for toothless Chelsea

“Finishing is the part he’s working on the most. His qualities are his tenacity, he’s relentless, he’ll chase down every ball. In the air he’s amazing. You can play the ball up to him and he’ll hold the ball up,” the defender continued.

“If he’s one-on-one in the box, or you cross it in, he’s going to score. He’s direct so I think that’s why he would suit the Premier League.”
