Hibernian prepared for next weekend’s Scottish Cup Quarter Final against Celtic with a win over Hearts. Jack Iredale scored the winner with a stunning second half strike to beat Craig Gordon and put the Leith side into third place.
The turnaround at Hibs has been remarkable; they were 12th in November but have since won 34 points out of 18 games to climb the table. David Gray’s side will travel to Glasgow’s East End full of confidence, especially after their win against Celtic last weekend.
Hibs will take a support in excess of 7,000 to Celtic Park after striking a deal with Celtic to get more away briefs. However, Brendan Rodgers’ side will be hoping to send them back across the M8 empty handed by securing their passage to the Semi Finals at Hampden.
Celtic beat Hibs in the early stages of the League Cup on their way to win the trophy against Rangers at Hampden. The performances by the Edinburgh side have certainly shown that they can create chances and defend against Celtic but, ultimately, they were lucky to win in the previous meeting at Easter Rd.
The SFA KMI committee confirmed that Alan Muir had incorrectly intervened to prevent Daizen Maeda’s equaliser from counting. Celtic were abysmal in the first half but were good after Brendan made the changes at the break. Celtic will be eager to put this game behind them and end Hibs’ impressive 15 game unbeaten run, since the 3-0 defeat at Celtic Park.
