Honduras victorious in Play-in, advances to Group Stage of W Futsal Championship

GUATEMALA CITY – The 2025 Concacaf W Futsal Championship kicked off with Honduras claiming a 6-5 win against Nicaragua in the Play-In Round on Monday at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
The first goal of the inaugural edition came from the boots of Katherine Amador in the 4’, with a right-foot chip over the goalkeeper to give Honduras the early advantage.
Honduras doubled its lead in the 5’ with a free kick from Raquel Alvarado, who sent the ball to the back of the net with a right-footed shot.
Reyna Hernández pulled one back for Nicaragua in the 10’, ready to pounce on the rebound after goalkeeper Jeymy Urroz kicked out a previous attempt.
Honduras managed to regain a two-goal advantage as Amador secured her brace, and the third for La Bicolor, in the 11’.
Hernández found the back of the net again in the 15’ with a left-footed shot for Nicaragua’s second goal. Honduras led 3-2 at the halftime break.
Nicaragua evened things in the 26’, tying at three apiece thanks to a Rosa Mena finish on a great collective play. La Azul y Blanco took the lead for the first time just seconds later, with Mena striking on target after winning the ball from the defense.
Maria Arvizu stuck in the 32’ to earn a fifth goal for Nicaragua, extending its streak to four unanswered.
Linda Moncada struck from long range in the 37’, pulling Honduras within one with just over three minutes remaining in the second period.
Amador completed her hat-trick in the 28’ to draw the teams level again at five all, sending the Play-In match to extra time.
The match-winning goal came in the second period of extra time, as Raquel Alvarado converted from the second penalty mark in the 47’ to complete the comeback for Honduras.
As the winner of the Play-In, Honduras advances to the Group Stage as part of Group B. La H will continue its campaign against the United States in its first group encounter on Tuesday.
