Roberts, who hails from nearby Crynant, first joined Swansea's academy aged just nine and rose through the ranks to make his professional debut for the club in an FA Cup third round tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers back in 2018 following loan stints with Yeovil Town, Bristol Rovers and Middlesbrough.

The Wales international established himself as a first-team regular with Swans after they were relegated from the Premier League in May 2018, featuring in all but one of their 46 Championship matches in the 2018/19 season.

Roberts then played a crucial role in two consecutive play-off finishes for the south Wales club and earned Swansea's Supporter's Player of the Season award at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, as his form that year was rewarded with a move to then-Premier League side Burnley for just £2.5 million.

Now 29, Roberts is still going strong and has forced his way back into Burnley's starting line-up this season following a loan move to Leeds United in the second-half of the previous term, making eleven league appearances at the time of writing.

The most recent of those came in Saturday afternoon's narrow 1-0 win over the Swans, where Roberts also marked his 100th appearance for the Clarets, and he has now revealed he wants to make an emotional return to the Swansea.com Stadium at some stage before ending his playing career.

Connor Roberts' admission on potential Swansea City return

The right-back disclosed his ambitions to eventually return to Swansea for a second spell and hopes that a move will happen in good time, although he remains focused on helping Burnley return to the Premier League at the first time of asking for now.

When speaking on BBC Wales Sport's Feast of Football, Roberts said: "It was strange [facing Swansea].

"It's always been strange. But it's the environment we are in.

"Hopefully one day I can go back to Swansea and I can be on their team for once. There will hopefully be good memories when I do go back and play for them again.

"But at the moment I am a Burnley player and I want to win every game and do my best for the Burnley fans and everyone associated with that club."

Swansea City would surely love Connor Roberts return

An eventual homecoming for Roberts would surely go down extremely well among the Jack Army faithful, whom the defender has an extremely strong rapport with.

As a boyhood Swans supporter and a graduate of the club's academy, Roberts is held in very strong regard back in that corner of Wales. It'll be interesting, then, to see when a potential return could take place.

It will be pointed out that Roberts' contract at Turf Moor is currently set to expire at the end of this season, which means a return in the not-too-distant future cannot be ruled out.

Admittedly, it doesn't seem as though Roberts himself is seemingly expecting to return to Swansea that soon, but if he doesn't stay on in Lancashire beyond the current campaign, then it's certainly a possibility.
