The impending showdown between Real Madrid and Barcelona will see the latter set about halting the charge of their arch rivals towards a high-profile all-time La Liga benchmark.

The latest edition of El Clásico, of course, is set to play out later this evening.

The matchup marks nothing short of a crucial one when it comes to the title race in Spain’s top-flight, with table-topping Barcelona aware that a victory would see them open up a six-point advantage over the reigning champions in 2nd.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real, on the other hand, will enter the matchup in the knowledge that a three-point haul of their own would see them join Barca at the summit of the table.

And yet, as alluded to above, much, much more is also set to be on the line at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday.

Real Madrid are currently in the midst of a 42-game unbeaten run in La Liga, dating back to early last season.

The only team to have ever managed more consecutive outings without defeat in the top-flight of Spanish football were Barcelona, with one game more, back in 2017-18.

This means that the Blaugrana will need to put Los Blancos to the sword on their own turf, to prevent their most bitter rivals from levelling them in the history books later tonight.
