Pep Guardiola’s Man City squad is currently spread around the globe with his players representing their international sides.
14 of City’s senior players have left Manchester for international duty this past week. They have been involved in matches across four different continents.
Here is how they have got on so far…
Erling Haaland is on international duty and it is no surprise that he has found the net. The striker notched his 39th goal for Norway in just his 40th appearance for his country. The 24-year-old is already his nation’s all time leading goalscorer and he will look to add to his tally against Israel tomorrow night.
Abdukodir Khusanov received a hero’s welcome as he returned to his home country. The first Uzbek to ever play in the Premier League, this week he was pictured with the President of Uzbekistan. The 21-year-old played the full game as his nation recorded a 1-0 victory over Kyrgyzstan. He is also likely to feature against Iran tomorrow.
Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva both joined the Portuguese squad for a double header against Denmark this week. Dias clocked 210 minutes as he played every minute for Portugal this week. Silva was a substitute in the first leg but played the full 120 minutes, as they advanced to the UEFA Nation’s League semi-finals after extra time.
Kevin De Bruyne and Jeremy Doku have both had success with the Belgian national team. De Bruyne started and assisted in both of their matches with Ukraine. Doku did not participate in the first match but he did start and assist in the second match. Belgium claimed a 4-3 aggregate win which secured their position in Group A of the Nation’s League.
Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic were both called up by Croatia this week. The pair played the full 90 minutes as they recorded a surprise 2-0 victory over France. They also both started in the second leg where Croatia eventually lost on penalties after losing the game 2-0.
Phil Foden started in Thomas Tuchel’s first England game, although he struggled to make an impact. He was joined on the pitch by Kyle Walker for the first time since the defender joined AC Milan on loan. Rico Lewis started for England’s U21s and won a penalty in the match. He was joined by James McAtee who scored and assisted in their 5-3 defeat to France U21s. They also have another fixture against Portugal U21s.
Savinho played 12 minutes for Brazil in their 2-1 victory over Colombia. The winger must compete with Vinicius Jr, Raphina, Rodrygo and more for minutes. However, he will hope to make an impact when Brazil face Argentina on Monday. Savinho’s teammate Ederson withdrew from Brazil’s squad before their first game, meanwhile.
January signing Omar Marmoush joined up with Egypt’s national team for their World Cup qualifiers. He played alongside Mohammed Salah as they beat Ethiopia and is expected to be involved again when they face Sierra Leone on Tuesday.
Stefan Ortega is City’s final player that has been with his country this week. Second choice goalkeeper for the Blues, the German performed the same role for his national team this week. He was an unused substitute in both legs of Germany’s victory over Italy.
