Following his brilliance for Hungary in Euro 2020, there always seemed a chance that Adam Nagy would leave Bristol City in the summer window but the manner of his departure proved something of a surprise.
The midfielder went toe-to-toe with the likes of Toni Kroos, N’golo Kante, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, and Ilkay Gundogan during the tournament’s group stages and turned heads with his impressive performances for his country.
But that didn’t seem to generate the interest one might’ve expected and his return to Ashton Gate saw him once again down the pecking order before securing a quiet move to Serie B club Pisa in late August.
His departure brought to an end an inconsistent and often frustrating two-year spell at City, in which beyond glimpses he was never really able to recreate his international form in a Robins shirt.
It is early days with Pisa yet but it seems Nagy is already beginning to establish himself in the side and is contributing to their success.
The defensive midfielder has featured just three times for the Serie B outfit – coming off the bench in a 4-1 win over Ternana and a 3-1 victory over LR Vincenza a week later before being handed his first start last weekend.
Nagy was named as the sole holding midfielder against AC Monza and played all 90 minutes, helping his side to a 2-1 win at the Arena Garibaldi – Romeo Anconetani to keep up Pisa’s 100% record.

With five wins in five, the Italian club are three points clear at the top of Serie B right now and certainly in promotion form, though it is early in the 2021/22 campaign.
It’s only been a small sample size so far but a fresh start away from Bs3 looks to be working wonders for the Hungarian, who was excellent against Monza – finishing the game with eight interceptions, six recoveries, 89% pass accuracy, and 100% success rate for passes into the opposition box (Wyscout).
Despite struggling to find his feet at Ashton Gate, Nagy was a fairly popular figure among the City fanbase and though it may pain them to see him succeeding elsewhere, you’d imagine the majority will be happy for him.
