Ahmed Elmohamady is a familiar name to fans of the EFL having had spells in the the Championship with both Hull City and Aston Villa.
Indeed, in the second tier, the now 35-year-old made 163 appearances in his career, scoring eight goals and registering a very respectable 27 assists.
The two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner also enjoyed great success in the division with both the Villians and the Tigers.
At Hull City, he featured prominently as the club were promoted to the Premier League in both 2012/13 and 2015/16, and he also did so at Aston Villa when they went up via the play-offs in 2018/19.
With the World Cup break now upon us in the Championship, we thought we’d take a quick look at how the former wing-back is getting on these days.
These days Elmohamady is well into retirement having hung up his boots following the 2020/21 season.
During that campaign, he played a squad role for Aston Villa, featuring just 17 times for the club.
These days, Elmohamady is a pundit on BEIN Sports, as per his Instagram bio, and he can be seen below alongside Arsene Wenger, among others, on a Champions League show.
Punditry is not the only way that the former full-back is keeping himself involved in the game, since he ended his playing career just over a year ago.
interview with Villa back in July, too, Elmohamady is currently an ambassador for the club over in Australia.
It is clearly a role he is excited about, telling Aston Villa club media earlier this summer: “I got the call and I didn’t have to think about anything.”
“To be involved with the club again is one of my proudest moments.
“To come back and be involved with the club as an Ambassador, I’m very proud of this role.”
Indeed, it’s great to see Ahmed Elmohamady still very much involved in the game following his retirement.
