Wood has been on fire for Forest this season, and used to be a key man at Elland Road

Chris Wood is having the season of his life on the world stage at Premier League high-flyers Nottingham Forest, but Leeds United supporters will mainly remember him for his impressive time at the club from 2015 to 2017.

New Zealand native Wood made the move to English football back in 2009, when he joined West Brom, and he played for numerous clubs on loan before another permanent transfer to Leicester City in 2013.

The burly striker spent two decent years at the King Power Stadium, which prompted Leeds to fork out up to £3 million for his services in 2015. Wood was, unsurprisingly, a prolific scorer for the Whites in the Championship, and he bagged 44 goals in 88 appearances for the Elland Road club before then moving on to Burnley for a hugely profitable fee of £15m.

Eight years on from that move, and he is arguably enjoying the best campaign of his career so far at Forest, with 18 goals in 29 league appearances to help fire Nuno Espírito Santo's side into Champions League contention.

Wood signed a four-year deal with Leeds when he joined from Leicester in 2015, and he took a slight pay-cut when he moved to Leeds, likely due to their Championship status compared to the Foxes being in the top-flight.

According to Capology's estimates, Wood earned £17,000 per week with the Whites. That made him the third-highest earner at the club, behind Will Buckley and Liam Bridcutt, but was still less than the apparent £20,000 weekly wage that he earned at Leicester.

Wood was definitely good value for his high relative wage at Leeds, especially in his second season at the club, as he netted 27 goals in 44 Championship games and won a myriad of individual awards including their Player of the Year and the second-tier Golden Boot.

His estimated £15,000 earnings saw him take home £780,000 each year that he was at the club. By those estimations, he earned around £1.56m in his two seasons at Elland Road.

Wood's 2017 move to Burnley was the first real high-profile transfer of his career, and his wage hike at Turf Moor reflected that fact. He signed a four-year contract with the Clarets and, according to Capology, earned a weekly wage of £35,000 in his first campaign at the club.

His wage was believed to have increased to £50,000 for the 2018/19 season, and it remained the same amount until he left the club for Newcastle United in January 2022 for a reported fee of £25m.

Wood flattered to deceive in his year on Tyneside, however, and scored just five goals in 39 games for the Magpies while earning a reported £80,000 every week, or 4,169,000 million each season.

He made the move to current club, Nottingham Forest, in January 2023, and Capology estimate that he has been on the same £80,000 per week contract at the City Ground for the last two years. That only changed in January of this year, as he signed a new deal and his earnings increased to around £90,000 per week.

Based off all of his estimated earnings at each club, Wood has made around £27,760,000 since leaving Leeds, with his transfers and contract extensions also taken into account for that figure.
