Manchester City’s FA Cup Final defeat has brought in the club a healthy pot of additional funds to perhaps aid their upcoming summer transfer spend.
It was not the fairytale ending that many football fans including those of a City persuasion will have been hoping for when it came to Kevin De Bruyne’s final outing at Wembley Stadium in a sky blue and white strip on Saturday afternoon.
A defiant and determined performance from Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side frustrated and restricted Manchester City to only a handful of clear-cut opportunities in front of goal, stealing victory thanks to a single goal from Eberechi Eze in the first-half.
The first major trophy in the history of Crystal Palace also means that Manchester City will end the 2024/25 campaign without a major piece of silverware to their own name for the first time since Pep Guardiola’s debut season at the club.
However, one slight positive is the addition of further funds to the club’s transfer pot as they eye a summer overhaul of their playing squad in the hope of returning Guardiola’s roster to its former competitive best ahead of the next campaign.
It can now be confirmed that after the conclusion of Saturday afternoon’s FA Cup Final, Crystal Palace have secured themselves a healthy prize pot of £3.91 million following their 1-0 victory at Wembley Stadium.
As for the runners-up Manchester City, Pep Guardiola’s side have banked a second-placed finish pot of £2.91 million, adding to the amount they banked for progressing all the way through to the showpiece Final.
Both Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City made a total of £1.91 million courtesy of their victories from the third round through to and including their respective semi-final victories.
Manchester City now have just two matches remaining this season that remain of utmost importance to the future of the club, as they know that a minimum of four points from their remaining matches will bank them a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Bournemouth are the final visitors to the Etihad on Tuesday night as City look to respond to their top-five rivals’ performances with a victory of their own, in a game that will also mark the final outing of Kevin De Bruyne in front of his home support for the last 10 years.
The final match of the campaign will then see City return to London, this time to take on Marco Silva’s Fulham at Craven Cottage, with the two final games no doubt being far from a formality given the strength of their respective showings throughout the season.
