Barcelona are set to benefit financially from the decision of La Liga rivals Villarreal to part with a member of the club’s defensive core.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Thursday provided an insight into the situation.
For those not aware, confirmation was forthcoming late on Wednesday that the aforementioned Villarreal have reached an agreement with Premier League outfit Fulham, over the sale of Jorge Cuenca.
The stopper, who played an important role for Marcelino’s troops last season, is expected to fly out to London over the coming days, ahead of putting pen to paper on a long-term deal at Craven Cottage.
As alluded to above, though, Villarreal will not be the only ones to benefit from the deal, from a monetary standpoint.
Cuenca made his way to La Cerámica back in the summer of 2020, after a three-year stint on the books of Barcelona.
And, as part of the transfer agreement between the clubs, the latter secured for themselves a 20% cut of any future move for the 24-year-old.
As per Sport:
‘Villarreal have closed the sale of Jorge Cuenca to Fulham for 6.5 million euros. This means that Barça will receive an unexpected 1.3 million euros that will help balance the books.’
