It’s always very interesting to look back at stories that come out when Chelsea signed players they are about to sell, so soon after buying them.

It looks like this is becoming the normal at Chelsea right now, with a host of players who have only recently arrived at the club reportedly being up for sale already.

EXCLUSIVE! 5 full backs Chelsea have placed top of their shortlist for transfer move soon!

Christopher Nkunku is obviously one of the highest profile names who is expected to leave very soon, even this month.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is another who could be off this month after only arriving to the club from Leicester City in the summer. But there are a handful more names as well.

Axel Disasi has been linked with a move this month as well and is reportedly now up for sale with clubs coming in for him.

But looking back to a PR article when the club signed him back in 2023, is actually quite entertaining to say the least.

Stewart wanted Disasi

Axel Disasi passes the ball against Ipswich.

Co-sporting director Laurence Stewart was the one who wanted to sign Disasi, knowing him from his former club Monaco. And according to a report from The Times at the time, he had to do a bit of convincing to the other sporting director at Chelsea, Paul Winstanley.

In an ‘inside Chelsea revolution’ article in February 2024, The Times wrote:

‘During the process of recruiting Disasi, Stewart had played Winstanley a set of video clips, “If you want to know Axel’s personality — this is what he’s like.”- The clips showed Disasi pulling off tackles, headers ‘roaring with pleasure.”

Well, he might be able to roar when he wins a header, but he certainly has never been a good enough player for Chelsea other than for a squad role, unfortunately.

This will only put the Blues sporting directors under more scrutiny.
