Huddersfield Town are set to bring in former Sheffield Wednesday striker Florian Kamberi when the January transfer window opens, according to a report from The Star.

The 27-year-old has linked up with the Terriers on their trip to Marbella, with Mark Fotheringham using the World Cup break to take his players away from England as he looks to turn around their fortunes in the coming months when they return.

Swiss-born Kamberi has been named in the squad of players that have been taken to Spain, being listed as a trialist with Fotheringham having the chance to take a closer look at the forward in the coming days.

Although he has been labelled as a trialist though, The Star are confident that he will link up with the Terriers permanently when January comes along after having his contract terminated at his last club in Switzerland.

He already has EFL experience from his time with Darren Moore’s Owls last season, scoring five goals in 27 appearances but failing to make a huge impact during his season-long loan spell at Hillsborough.

Fotheringham will be hoping to see the 27-year-old thrive despite the fact he would need to make the step up – but he won’t be able to play for the West Yorkshire outfit until January due to the fact he was registered to St Gallen earlier this season.

He will need to take his game to another level this season if wants to thrive with the Terriers – and will have the opportunity to get himself up to the standard required between now and January.

That should help him to make a respectable start to life at the John Smith’s Stadium – and he could end up being a decent signing on a free transfer – potentially enabling others to come in during the January window.

They certainly need another forward to come in considering their lack of depth in this area and their lack of firepower too, with Harry Toffolo’s departure not just being costly in defence but also in the final third.

Lewis O’Brien was also a big player going forward for the Terriers, so more attacking players are needed to give them the best chance of remaining afloat in the Championship beyond this season.

Kamberi may not be the most spectacular addition on paper – but he adds another option to a position that needs to be addressed and is cheap – something that’s ideal for the Terriers considering they are likely to be working within a tight transfer budget this winter.

He enjoyed a decent spell at Hibernian in the past too, giving Huddersfield supporters hope that he could be a shrewd signing.
