‘I can’t say anymore’: Manager confirms talks after being in ‘close contact’ with Man Utd struggler

The forthcoming international break provides some players the opportunity to revive their form away from the spotlight of club football.
Rasmus Hojlund is someone who’ll be hoping that can be the case for him as he looks to oversee something of a goalscoring resurgence following such a stagnant period.
Unfortunately for the Manchester United frontman, his woes in front of goal have been flagrant for club and country. If he could put an end to both in the coming weeks, Hojlund could earn some credit in the bank before INEOS enter the market in search of a new striker this summer.
The 22-year-old has found the back of the net just twice in 23 Premier League appearances this term. For Denmark, he enjoyed a prolific run during their qualification to Euro 2024 but failed to open his account even once at the actual tournament. He’s now gone 12 matches without a return, which has only piled the pressure onto their upcoming Nations League two-legged quarter-final tie against Portugal.

Still, it’s positive that Hojlund received a call-up to at least be given the chance to provide for his nation – unlike Joshua Zirkzee, who was omitted from Ronald Koeman’s selection this time around.
New Denmark boss Brian Riemer weighed in on the situation this week, saying (via EkstraBladet): “Rasmus Hojlund’s form speaks for itself. I can’t say anything else because you know the numbers.
“I would prefer to select a team where the players are bursting with self-confidence and in top form. But, sometimes, you also have to compromise. My job is to find the balance of how many of those who are not in top form I can select.
“I think Rasmus Hojlund really benefits from coming here and getting some national love.”
“I’m not worried at all,” he continued. “Rasmus is a strong character. I’ve been in close contact with him.
”I’ve been in this game for many years. That’s football. It goes up and down. I don’t know any striker who hasn’t been in scoring crises.
“When he scored seven goals in six games in a row [last season for United], we were all ready with a 100-year contract. That’s football. Suddenly, the boil pops up again, and then we’ve forgotten what happened.”
