FC Barcelona were able to close the gap over the top of the La Liga table with a win over Sevilla last night. The first-placed two teams, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, fought out a draw in their last encounter, and the Blaugranes took full advantage of this situation to move within 2 points of the top spot.

Pedri was once again the MVP as he helped his team get a 1-4 win over Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan. He provided the assist for the goal scored by Fermin to give his side the lead at the very start of the second half.

However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the Canarian made it clear that his numbers are not something that he gives a lot of importance to, as he talked to the media after the match: “I don’t focus much on the numbers. I prefer that the team keeps winning matches.”

Talking about the win itself, the midfielder expressed his delight in taking advantage of the points dropped by their rivals:

“It was an important match for us. I’m happy with how the game played out and with the team’s reaction despite being one man down.”

The Spanish international also highlighted the importance of the second goal scored by Barcelona:

“We were having a good first half until the goal. In the second half, we corrected some things, and scoring shortly after coming out gave us a lot of confidence. Additionally, they also had to open up more.”

Lastly, the midfielder was also quite satisfied with the way the team played with a numerical disadvantage:

“I’ve experienced matches at Barça where we didn’t know how to manage playing with a numerical disadvantage. Today, we stayed solid with a mid-block.”

As has been the case for the entirety of this season, Pedri was inarguably one of the most important players for Barcelona in this game. Hopefully, he will continue to help his team get more wins in the coming games, and help them get their hands on an important piece of silverware.
