“I think it would be a mistake” – Norwich City fan pundit discusses 25-year-old’s Canaries future amid expiring contract | OneFootball

Whenever a player enters the last year of their current contract, it is always a nervous time for a club.

Indeed, that is surely the case with Norwich City with regards to Danel Sinani, whose current deal at Carrow Road expires at the end of this Championship season.

That means that the 25-year-old is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club come the January transfer window, with the view to a free transfer to that respective club next summer.

Alternatively, the club could look to cash in on what value the player has left in January rather than losing him on a free transfer.

With all of the above in mind, we asked FLW’s Norwich City fan pundit Zeke Downes whether or not he would be happy for Sinani to leave, or, whether the club should make an effort to keep hold of him.

“I think it would be a mistake to let Danel Sinani leave because we are already light in attacking options.” Zeke explained to FLW.

“When he starts games, he is really good. But it’s that when he comes off the bench, he doesn’t seem to have that impact and either that’s because he is quite slow or he’s just not that sort of player who is able to affect a game of the bench.

“Unlike [Onel] Hernandez, who is the opposite and is not really able to start games, but as a sub, he is excellent.

“I think we need to keep him [Sinani]. Hopefully start him in a few more games and then he will prove to us all that he is able to do at this level which he already proved last year.

“So I think we need to definitely keep him.”

The Verdict

I think the issue here is the expiring contract.

Were Sinani to be contracted to the summer of 2024, for example, there wouldn’t be much debate about him leaving the club at the moment.

The problem is, the club have to make a decision either way – offer him a new deal or potentially lose him for free – and at the moment, they don’t know what league they are going to be in.

Sure, if the Canaries remain a Championship outfit, Sinani proved last year on loan at Huddersfield that he is a good option to have at this level, but I’m not sure we’ve seen enough to suggest that is the case at Premier League level and that’s where Norwich could be playing next season.

Indeed, it’s a tough spot for the club to be in, and it will be interesting to see what they decide to do in the coming months.

If our fan pundit had their way, it sounds as though Sinani would be staying put at Carrow Road for the time being.
