Along with tens of thousands of other Newcastle United fans, I will be heading to Wembley for the Carabao Cup Final.
A Sunday 16th March 2025 appointment with Liverpool.
The winners taking silverware back to Merseyside…or Tyneside.
Ahead of that of course, Newcastle United fans had other matches to occupy our thoughts.
Sunday seeing United knocked out of the FA Cup by Brighton.
So no other Wembley visits potentially this season for Newcastle United fans, no FA Cup Semi-Final, definitely no FA Cup Final.
‘Only’ the one Cup Final then.
In the pub after defeat to Brighton, my mate was asking me if I was now worried about this Carabao Cup Final?
I had to laugh.
Why should I be worried about this particular Cup Final???
I was very worried about the 46 Cup Finals (FA Cup and League Cup) that followed the 1999 FA Cup Final BECAUSE Newcastle United weren’t in any of them!!!
When it gets to Sunday 16 March 2025, Newcastle United will have been in two of the most recent five Cup Finals!
This is living the dream after all those years of little or no hope.
In a couple of weekends time this isn’t something to be worried about, this Carabao Cup Final. It is something to be treasured and seen as a huge opportunity. Newcastle United are one of only two clubs who can now win the 2025 League Cup. Before 2023, in the entire 60+ year history of the League Cup, Newcastle United fans had only ever experienced one previous League Cup Final.
Let’s just wait and see what happens on the day, which players are available for Newcastle United AND Liverpool. They have two massive and tough Champions League matches against PSG before the Carabao Cup Final, whilst Newcastle have that one Premier League match at West Ham.
You never know. If Newcastle United fans do everything they can to help them, just maybe Eddie Howe and his players can get this final over the line, maybe it will end up being our day.
As we all (or at least should do) sing, Newcastle UNITED will never be defeated.
