This summer a host of players will leave Manchester City. That has to happen as City continue their summer rebuild. A report from Sam Lee for The Athletic yesterday indicated that City were also eager to lower their wage bill in the off-season. But Lee also reported that the reliability of players could also potentially determine who leaves the world champions this summer. Injuries have ravaged Pep Guardiola’s squad this season. Given that Manchester City typically play every three days they’ll need players who can sustain such a heavy workload for next season and beyond.

John Stones could be a player that leaves Manchester City this summer.

One player who has struggled with injury issues in recent seasons is John Stones. This season, Stones has only made 20 appearances in all competitions. He is also currently sidelined due to injury. Stones went down injured during Manchester City’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in February. He hasn’t played since that night in Madrid.

When fit, John Stones is a key player for Pep Guardiola’s side. The problem is his body can’t be relied upon as injuries catch up to him as well as age.

Manchester City could sell Stones this summer.

Giuseppe Labellarte has reported for Manchester City News that John Stones could leave City this summer. Furthermore, Labellarte reports that City have concerns over Stones’ fitness and availability. The England international only has a year left on his current contract. Labellarte adds that it is unlikely that City will offer him a contract extension.

Based on the available information John Stones could be another player who leaves City this summer. His constant fitness issues could force City’s hand in the summer. Pep Guardiola’s squad needs reliable players to maintain a charge on multiple fronts next season. Unfortunately, that could see Stones leave the club that he has given his all for during his time at Manchester City.
