Competitive debut against theRangers

Making a competitive debut for the Hoops in a 3-0 victory against theRangers at Celtic Park. and then scoring his first goal as a Celt a week later versus Hearts made dreams become reality for the 26 year-old midfielder.

Despite not starting a competitive game yet, McCowan has caught the eye of Brendan Rodgers with his effective substitute appearances. Most notably, last Sunday against Ross County where it was he who played a vital role in Celtic’s late turnaround in Dingwall.

With an international break looming, it was discussed that Steve Clarke would possibly bring him into the national team fold for the inaugural time.

“I’d love to represent my country”

Although McCowan did not receive the phone call, he expressed his willingness at remaining patient, “if it comes, it comes. I’m not really fussed about it. I’m at a club this size and it’s not my focus. If the Scotland manager picked up the phone and asked me to go. I’d happily go. Of course I’d love to represent my country,” the Celtic star stated as reported via Yahoo! News.

“The time is not there yet. Whether it comes with more years here and more minutes on the pitch, then so be it. But right now my full focus is getting in this team and being effective. I’ve been involved a lot already. It’s about showing you are as good as the player coming off and I know myself that I’m as good as the players starting.”

Steve Clarke’s side head to Zagreb on Saturday night to face Croatia in the UEFA Nations League. They will then play Portugal at Hampden Park next Tuesday.

Two Celts in Scotland squad

Two Celtic players included in the Scotland squad for the upcoming games are James Forrest and Anthony Ralston. A right-back injury crisis means that Ralston and Aberdeen’s Nicky Devlin are the only two options Clarke has at his disposal.

Greg Taylor pulled out the squad earlier this week after picking up a calf injury against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. Jimmy Thelin’s left-back Jack MacKenzie has been added into the squad as a result following an impressive start to the season.
