Il Giornale: WWF take action against Milan due to San Donato concerns

The story about the San Donato proceedings have taken a new turn today, and a new opposition to AC Milan has arisen – the World Wide Fund for Nature, better known as WWF.

It’s never easy when it comes to Milan’s stadium. Since January, there have been several plot twists, and it would probably make a good film to see everything play out once again. However, it is a headache for the Rossoneri, and they are not done there.

With the Diavolo seemingly going ahead with the San Donato project, work has started taking place – most recently building a 1.5 km fence surrounding the area and the removal of debris, as reported in recent days.

There are some concerns about the project held by the WWF, and a petition against Sportlifecity – the company controlled by the Rossoneri who own the area – has been filed with the Civil Court of Milan, according to a report this morning in Il Giornale (via Calcio e Finanza).

The dispute has been raised with the environmentalists stating that the club ‘can’t touch the woods where you want to make the Milan stadium’, and it could hold precedence. According to the report, a ‘preventive technical assessment’ has been requested, with WWF believing that the area can be ‘considered as a forest’ which would make it a protected area.

Whilst Sportlifecity’s lawyers have denied this, there have been queries about the removal of these areas due to the uncertainty of a stadium being built. It is believed a decision will be made by the judge shortly.

With Gerry Cardinale selling some of his shares and the stadium mentioned within the reports, a positive answer must be found and clarity must be given.
